One of the most common causes of death in the United States is heart disease. One of the most serious examples of this is a myocardial infarction of a heart attack. Those individual of risks are those with a family history heart disease, have high fat diet, a sedentary lifestyle and a lifestyle that is over stressful.
The coronary arteries are the hearts own life blood supply. These arteries can become partially or totally obstructed. This can be caused by a build up of plaque which then can completely obstruct the artery and may trigger a clot to form. In either case the heart is deprived of blood in one or more of its vital regions. Depending on the artery involved can be the difference between moderate muscle damage and instant death.
The risk of a myocardial infarction is reduced by a healthy diet, regular exercise, eliminating smoking and control of ones cholesterol levels. Myocardial infarctions are fatal in about one quarter of all cases.
